Jon Rahm Reveals His Biggest Regret About Leaving The PGA Tour For LIV Golf

When Jon Rahm steps on the first tee at Augusta National Golf Club on April 11, he’ll do so at the reigning Masters champion.

But he’ll also do so, for the first time, as a member of LIV Golf rather than the PGA Tour.

Rahm made the blockbuster move to defect to LIV in December, and while he’s settled in nicely, he does have one major regret.

Jon Rahm Shares Regret Over Not Being Able To Defend Titles

On a recent media call, Rahm revealed that it bothers him that he cannot defend the titles he won last year on the PGA Tour.

“I’m not going to lie; for everybody who said [leaving for LIV] would be easy, some things have been, but not being able to defend some titles that mean a lot to me hasn’t,” Rahm said via Golf.com. “I love Palm Springs. I’ve been able to win twice there. Riviera is about as charismatic of a golf course as we have. It’s definitely a week that it’s fantastic for a lot of us, and it’s a fan and player favorite. Not being there was difficult.

“I still watched the broadcast. I still watch golf because I love watching it. But it’s hard. It was hard not to be at the Phoenix Open at the end of February, and it was hard not to be at Hawaii because it’s another tournament that my family enjoys and I’ve done fantastic on.”

Rahm won four tournaments last year, including The Masters. But Augusta is the only place where he’ll be allowed to defend his crown.

Despite that, the Spaniard, ranked third in the world at the moment, says he’s at peace.

“It’s done. It’s past. It’s a decision I made, and I’m comfortable with it,” he said. “But I’m hoping I can come back, and hopefully I can actually defend [Masters] week, as well. That would be a dream come true. Not many back-to-back champions, and that would be very unique to be able to put my name to that list.”

If Rahm can defend his Masters title, he’ll join an exclusive group featuring only Jack Nicklaus (1965-1966), Nick Faldo (1989-1990) and Tiger Woods (2001-2002).
